Plant Engineering composes a portion of the System Engineering group, and the Plant Engineer provides engineering and technical support to the Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance Departments assuring reliable and efficient plant operation. Rapid solutions to emergent equipment and component issues are part of the responsibilities of the Plant Engineer. Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant is a single unit boiling water reactor, located about three miles northwest of Monticello, MN, and 40 miles northwest of the Twin Cities on the banks of the Mississippi River.Essential Responsibilities:- Specific duties include the generation and completion of Engineering Changes that support the T-week process. These Engineering Changes include Equivalencies, Minor Modifications, Work Order Only Modifications, Temporary Modifications,
Engineering Evaluations, 50.59 screenings/evaluations, etc.- Provide leadership for troubleshooting efforts for emergent equipment and component issues that arise. This will include technical support for resolving issues as well as leading a group of multi-disciplined personnel in resolving issues. Be able to proficiently interpret electrical drawings and schematics in support of troubleshooting. Completion of processes in support of emergent plant issues, including Temporary Modifications (T-Mods), Operability Recommendations (OPRs), Operational Decision Making Issues (ODMIs), etc.- Written and verbal communication skills are a must to ensure issues are properly documented and can be understood by personnel not familiar with the issue. Interaction with other departments is key to the success of the Plant Engineer.- Attend department and plant meetings. Attend Training.QualificationsRequired:8 years of nuclear experience preferred. Post-bachelor's degree (or professional school equivalent) in engineering or other technical field preferred. Minimum qualifications, which apply to all levels in the engineering hierarchy, require a four-year engineering degree from an American Board of Engineering Technology (ABET) accredited institution. The applicability of the degree shall be documented at time of hiring.The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's skills and experience.A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consists of an alcohol/drug screen, a criminal history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).Primary Location:MN-MonticelloSchedule:Full-timeUnion Position:Non-Bargaining
