General Job Objective

Manitowoc Cranes, a global leader in lifting solutions is seeking a detail oriented Test Engineer Applied Mechanics, to join its team. Key responsibilities of this position include supporting the development and implementation of the verification programs at the Product Verification Center. The Test Engineer would possess the experience and skills required for a particular area of expertise (Electrical/Software, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Structural, Materials, Product and Test Specifications and Procedures) within the verification programs. This individual would be responsible for analysis of test results, and implementation of test standards and procedures. Training/Mentoring Test Engineers. This position is very hands on. Reporting directly to the Manager of Product Testing, this position is based in Shady Grove, PA.

Essential Job Functions

- Conduct tests on structural and power train components and assemblies for use on construction equipment
- Support Test Specifications Design to assure that Manitowoc products are built to the highest standards
- Setup and installation of data acquisition equipment and components
- Test off-highway/construction equipment and components in actual or simulated field or lab conditions
- Work with test technicians to fabricate test fixtures and special test set-ups
- Communicate with engineering to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation
- Mentor, direct, and train test technicians
- Prepare analysis, test, performance, schedule, and cost information as required in assigned area of responsibility

Job Requirements/Working Conditions

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
- 7+ years Test and/or design experience with off road, construction or agricultural equipment will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Structural design experience in off highway/agricultural preferred
- Establish and implement test methods to ensure early identification of potential problems with new and existing products and processes
- Experience evaluating product designs and product performance requirements to determine testing requirements
- FEA knowledge and use is preferred
- Experience with Pro/E and a 2D CAD package
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Knowledge of Six Sigma principles and Design for Six Sigma is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Working conditions in engineering lab environment include exposure to heat, cold, wet, dry, etc. for a brief period of time.
