Role Overview:

Globally apply hot rolling process knowledge, engineering expertise, and project management skills to:

Rapidly advance and implement new processes, equipment, and procedures to achieve improved performance in Novelis operations.

Resolve advanced rolling process problems.

Promote and practice comprehensive best practice sharing.

Develop these skills among his/her plant contacts and colleagues.

These objectives will be accomplished by leading project teams of operations and R&D personnel, consulting on major capital projects requiring advanced process expertise, and utilizing external expertise when needed. The latest breakthrough technologies relative to hot rolling will be communicated to relevant plant, corporate, and laboratory personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides engineering expertise and project management skills to introduce and implement new hot rolling processes, equipment, and operational procedures. These utilize the best knowledge available, conform to Novelis EHS requirements, and will be designed to make problems highly visible. An important function is consulting on major capital projects such as Project Venus, ensuring the most appropriate and cost effective rolling technologies are used.

Provide engineering expertise and apply scientific methodologies to rapidly troubleshoot and resolve productivity, quality, or reliability issues on Novelis Hot Mills. Permanent solutions are implemented and well-communicated locally and to similar operations around Novelis.

Champion knowledge transfer and communications within the Novelis hot rolling community. Specifically, direct and manage best practice sharing activities by utilizing benchmarking, audits, workshops, webinars, discussion groups, and other practice sharing tools.

Improve own skills in above three capabilities, and help develop these capabilities in operational personnel through training, involvement in projects, and troubleshooting exercises.

Maintains ongoing dialogue with hot rolling technical experts within and outside Novelis to stay aware of new processes, best practices, CI projects, and innovations. Ensure relevant operations are made aware of the latest technology.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Position requires an advanced technical degree with minimum 10 years direct, hot rolling experience or 20 - 25 years experience in hot rolling processes and operations with detailed knowledge of equipment and related technologies.

Must be recognized throughout most of Novelis as a subject matter expert.

Must possess excellent communications skills with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.

Must be persuasive with ability to influence decision making at the intermediate levels of the organization.

Must possess strong individual initiative, with abilities to handle complex engineering and process issues requiring creative thinking and independent actions to find solutions.

Requires working knowledge of statistics and statistical methods and Continuous Improvement methodologies.

Requires detailed knowledge of hot rolling Novelis Environmental, Safety, and Health standards, practices and procedures.

Must have detailed knowledge of major technologies available and vendors supplying in the rolling industry.

Must demonstrate sound leadership and general management skills for directing and developing team members. Experience in a process leadership management position is an asset.

Must be willing and able to travel extensively including visits to any Novelis plant in any country, customer locations, and supplier locations.
