An intern (typical 10-12 week, full-time schedule assignment) position is a temporary assignment with 3M's Corporate Student Programs. Corporate Student Programs is designed to provide 3M with the opportunity to identify qualified candidates for regular employment, and to provide students with the opportunity to integrate their academic knowledge with work experience. As a Student Programs participant located in Nevada, MO you will develop skills, and gain work experience in your field of study.
3M Nevada is the manufacturing center of excellence among the seven worldwide Commercial Graphic plant sites producing high quality graphic products, tapes, and liners for the global graphic and signage markets. In addition, 3M Nevada produces specialty products for sixteen other 3M businesses, and is one of the five 3M Superhubs in North America - a preferred multi-divisional manufacturing site.
This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year.
The position will be responsible for, but not limited to the following specific duties according to position assignment:
- Assigned plant product or process engineering projects that result in cost savings
- Test method development/improvement
- Assigned Lean projects including standard work, changeover reductions, etc
- Optimize products, supporting product engineers
- Overall orientation to engineering activities in Nevada, MO
- Shadow other product/process engineers on projects
Basic/Minimum Qualifications:
- Completed High School Diploma/GED is required
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering
- Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor level or higher degree program in Engineering with an accredited university, having completed at a minimum your junior year by summer of 2012
- Completed internship/co-op with 3M or another manufacturing company
- Experience utilizing statistical tools and systematic methodology such as Six Sigma
