Position Summary:
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Scientific Instrumentation Development, will be responsible for leading the development from concept to engineering release of new products, including supervision of professionals and technicians. The position requires: Working with an interdisciplinary team to define requirements and scope of new products and translating them into working engineering specifications; developing and overseeing project schedules, budgets, and work breakdown structures, including developing vendors and managing contractors; troubleshooting problems in development, manufacturing and in the field; Creating 3D designs and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks; Performing engineering analysis on designs including stress, vibration, thermal, and flow analysis, using both conventional engineering analysis and simulation; Performing lab testing for verification of designs and overseeing the field testing of new products.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and manage engineering specifications for new products including performance and cost effectiveness while ensuring DFM and lean goals are met.
Lead in the design, development, testing and field validation of new products or modifications to existing products.
Perform engineering analysis on designs (FEA, vibration, thermal, fluid flow).
Implement plans, time lines, and budgets for new product development.
Produce engineering documents to include assembly drawings, installation drawings, service pages, and engineering test specifications.
Analyze and solve technical problems and provide solutions that can be implemented in a timely manner.
Provide technical support to marketing on product installations to ensure field test installations conform to appropriate product application.
Analyze field failures, resolving technical issues involving product.
Investigate new technologies or existing technologies that can be effectively applied to products and markets.
Initiate and perform lab testing of competitive products highlighting differences, strengths and weaknesses.

Requirements:
BSME, MS preferred, with minimum 5 years relevant experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience in project leadership including cost and schedule
Expert in Solid Works
Experience in DFM, Lean, Six Sigma principles is desirable
Experience with high vacuum systems, electro-optical systems, electromechanical systems, and digital imaging is highly desired.
Thorough understanding of change management processes
Proficient in office productivity software (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation)
