Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Successful candidate will support and be based out of our Buckeye/Phoenix, Arizona office in servicing a major Power Utility Client.
Primary duties will be to assist supervising mechanical engineers in developing and managing project tasks for multiple fossil fuel power plants located throughout Arizona and New Mexico.
Mechanical Engineering Design Engineer for miscellaneous generation station projects. Will perform engineering and design analysis for systems and equipment in power generating stations, design modification/construction/bid packages, walkdowns and task management for these projects.
Candidates may be asked to perform the following:
Perform engineering, design, analysis, or other technical tasks utilizing current technology and available standards, templates, and cataloged products with minimal supervision.
Assist in ensuring quality assurance/quality control compliance within client and company guidelines. Plan/participate in technical audits. Support engineering/design technical checking and incorporation of comments.
Define task details and develop project scope/cost/time requirements and assist team to meet expectations. Advise supervisor and/or engineering and project management team on any issues such as staffing requirements, progress slippage, scope changes, budget overruns, or other events that could affect project completion and/or profitability.
Be responsible for, task communication and document control activities. Coordinate inter-discipline reviews of deliverables with team members and client.
Be responsible for project procurement requirements which may include assessment of supplier capabilities, recommendations to client, response to supplier questions, completion of bid tabulation, and coordination with client's procurement department.
Perform engineering calculations/analyses/studies. Activities may include gathering data from multiple sources at client's power plants and archived documents.
Design Calculations/Analyses - May participate with design team in gathering data from multiple sources, preparing design calculations, and design analyses.
Design Based Procurement - Participate with the design team in incorporating information from design calculations and analyses into equipment specifications, data sheets, testing requirements, and material requisitions for design based equipment. May advise and direct the design team in inter-discipline vendor documentation review and approval, factory acceptance testing and certification.
Conducts site surveys, interpret regulatory codes, interpret client standards, apply standard engineering and design practices, make sketches, provide technical direction to the design team towards document creation, and author work package narratives. Advise and direct the design team in the creation of material take offs, drawing lists, and document revision control.
Participate in constructability reviews and incorporation of findings into engineering and design. Respond to requests for information from field personnel.
As-building - Mark-up field documents and verify mark-ups. Incorporate field mark-ups into final drawing review.
Successful candidate should be an "Independent Contributor" with ability to discover issues and recommend solutions to problems uncovered during course of assignments. Able to work independently on the more varied and complex tasks and/or functional leadership without direct supervision.
Interface regularly with departmental staff, management, and outside customers.
Demonstrate awareness of health, safety, and environment issues; and to take action to ensure zero harm to all employees, customers, contractors, and the environment.

Experience and Qualifications
BS or MS in related field or applicable discipline. 5-8 years experience in power utilities. Recognized expertise within area of focus. Professional Engineering registration is desirable.
Independently works through individual projects and/or plays key role in broader projects. Uses best practices to solve functional issues and improve programs and/or processes in support of organizational business challenges.Relies on systemic thinking and understanding of broader organizational implications of the work being performed to solve problems.
Computer proficiency required. This includes proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Relevant experience with engineering software applications, such as AutoCAD, is a plus.
Will have strong analytical and problem solving skills and be detail-oriented and accurate in all assessments and actions.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities for multiple tasks.
Strong written and verbal communication skills of the English language are critical. Able to explain why things are done certain ways within a broader organizational context. Commitment to customer service and ability to work on teams and in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to maintain confidential information is critical.
