The Pipeline Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert in the field of pipeline engineering, operations technical support, and pipeline integrity management. The Pipeline Engineer will perform various engineering analysis and consulting activities as well as develop and maintain engineering standards and procedures. The Pipeline Engineer will work within a cross functional team of subject matter experts on various engineering and technical support initiatives and programs for NiSource Gas Transmission and Storage. The Pipeline Engineer will support Operations Teams to identify and address reliability and maintenance issues, and will provide technical support in areas including pipeline design and maintenance, equipment design and maintenance, regulatory compliance, erosion control, leak detection and corrosion control.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Pipeline Engineer supports Operations and Projects for NGT&S interstate natural gas transmission system, including:
Primary point of contact for technical services support to regional Operations personnel on maintenance projects, including QA/QC for life-of-facility documentation. Documentation includes facility maintenance reports and hydrostatic testing plans,
Approves pipeline repairs (RSTRENG, dent strain analysis, sleeves, leak repairs, composite reinforcements),
Performs Class Location change studies,
Reviews and approves third party project plans, including seismic, blasting, load bearing, mining subsidence, and pipeline relocation requirements,
Supports Operations personnel with State PUC & PHMSA audits (49 CFR 192),
Collaborates within Engineering and Operations on strategic issues affecting pipelines,
Develops regional scopes of work aligned with strategic Capex initiatives,
Supports project managers to define, execute, and deliver project scopes,
Participates in industry events (PRCI, INGAA, SGA),
Maintains assigned policy, plan, and procedures with current industry standards.
The Pipeline Engineer maintains a high level of focus on health, safety and environment, ensuring safety within all activities.
Participate in industry initiatives, including research and technology development related to pipeline engineering and extract value from industry initiatives for incorporation into NGT&S programs
Support operational integrity and regulatory compliance through development and maintenance of pipeline design, maintenance and construction standards, procedures and specifications.
Perform a variety of engineering analyses on complex technical issues
Develop and maintain engineering standards, materials specifications and construction design documents, while supporting safe work practices, industry best practices and NGT&S Program requirements
Provide training and engineering support to other technical employees, engineers and Operations staff to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies
Provide expertise, technical support, and training in technical areas such as Corrosion Control, Equipment Maintenance, Failure Investigation, Risk Management, Welding, Metallurgy, Pipe Design, Pipeline Construction and Pipeline Operations and Maintenance.
Develop project scopes and estimates and serve as the technical lead for various construction and maintenance projects.
Perform studies for increasing pipeline pressures, assessing pipeline reliability and for developing strategies to mitigate threats to pipeline integrity.
