Posted Position Title: Rail Application Engineer Career Level: Experienced Function: Sales Function Segment: Sales Management Location: United States U.S. State, China or Canada Provinces:Georgia City: Atlanta Postal Code: 30339-8402 Relocation Expenses: Partial Expenses Role Summary/Purpose:The RAIL Application Engineer provides technical support to the Industrial Solutions Vertical team in the development of a pipeline of potential RAIL, OEM and city / municipality opportunities incorporating Industrial Solutions products and services. This is done through a consultative, solutions approach in which the RAIL Application Engineer provides designs to the customer demonstrating technical expertise and building customer credibility. Essential Responsibilities Proactively promote and position GE early in the project phase to create value and influence by working closely with consultants, developers & customers
Provide technical expertise to Sales & Commercial Operations in selecting, implementing, and developing competitive product applications to address energy efficiency, resource scarcity and environmental requirements
Estimate GE equipment and system performance, hardware and price for budgetary estimates
Assess competitive system performance & hardware evaluation throughout the entire bid process
Identify customer’s needs (New Product Introduction) and communicate it back to the GE businesses
Participate in customer presentations, discussions, negotiations, conferences, and all front line marketing / sales efforts in a technical sales role. Be a catalyst in problem solving
Lead technical project design and scope at customer meetings maintaining a high level of business acumen
Communicate these project requirements to effectively leverage GE’s matrix organization
Train sales force to empower them with the latest technical knowledge and information
Collaborate and participate as a member of the industrial vertical team to create and communicate the Industrial Solution value proposition
Maintain expertise on product and technology knowledge, international codes and standards, and metals processing technology advances Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other Engineering field OR a minimum of 4 years extensive field service
Minimum of 2 years operational experience in the transportation and/or rail industry primarily electrical power systems, and mechanical motor operation
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Ability and willingness to travel a minimum of 30% Additional Eligibility QualificationsGE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen. Desired Characteristics Strong background & knowledge of Industrial Solutions products and services
Ability to execute and influence in a matrixed organizational structure
Excellent communication skills (written and spoken), well-established organizational and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with minimal direction
Ability to communicate with all internal / external business levels
Team Player and self-starter with demonstrated problem solving and organization networking capabilities and the ability to operate without detailed work direction
Advanced Engineering Degree
Master Black Belt (GE employees only)
Prior experience with customer specifications review, proposal development, and contract development and negotiations
