The company has traditionally manufactured diamond wire in relatively small quantities. Now, with the newly formed partnership with Meyer Burger, the anticipated growth of the wire business will spur rapid growth opportunities.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for technical product development. Correlations need to be made between wire manufacturing processes, sawing performance, and silicon or sapphire quality. Field data on wire performance will also be integrated. Knowledge generated through these investigations will be used to influence wire manufacturing practices, wire performance, and the design of new wire products. This is a hands-on technical position that will be involved with taking performance data of the wire and wafer quality to determine the technical characteristics that caused those results. This person will also be responsible for identifying corrective actions in process and materials that will drive toward more consistent, high performing diamond wire. It is also a responsibility of this position to work with sales, manufacturing, and other engineering areas to ensure that the product continues to meet the needs of the customers and leads the market in cutting characteristics.
Principal Responsibilities
• Understand the relationship between wire manufacturing and the related saw processes for solar, LED and semiconductor applications and use that knowledge to recommend changes to the wire manufacturing production process in order to produce the highest quality wire that meets the needs of our customers.
• Analyze and decipher the data gathered in saw cuts and technically tie it to the causal issues in the production process. Mechanical property and materials science investigations will be required.
• Have the capability to determine which technical issues are most relevant to the success of wire production and direct action on those issues.
• Drive technical changes that will have a positive influence on the cost of producing our wire products.
• Serve as the technical bridge between the Applications Engineering Team and the Process Engineering Team.
• Support Product Engineers, Production, Technicians, and Sales to become an integrated part of that team driving to provide technical expertise in the area of product development and improvement.
Position Requirements
• BS degree in Material Science, Industrial, Mechanical or related engineering field. MS degree or higher in engineering esirable.
• Five plus years in product engineering, product development or related engineering position ideally working with a technical consumable product line. Prefer experience in a developing industry where change and prototyping are required.
• Strong problem solving skills with a basic understanding of SPC. Capable of setting up DOEs preferred.
• Skilled in the use of mechanical tests and advanced microscopy (optical, SEM)
• Capable of understanding how to operate equipment.
• Excellent reputation for building relationships across various levels of an organization. Able to work independently as well as a member of a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be effective within the organization as well as with the customers.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities to ensure deadlines are met in a fast-paced environment.
• This position is part of the Product Management team, which is under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer
