7-PDO Design Release Engineer Seat Structure and Mechanisms-R-ENG0008423Responsible for specifying requirements, execution and evaluation of designs, analysis, development, testing and control of major engineering projects where creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment. Exercises technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a group with specific engineering objectives. Consults with supervisor as required.* Product design release engineer responsible for leading seat product development activities* Create Statement of Requirements (SOR), Sub System Technical Specification (SSTS) documents and enforce compliance thereof* Coach/lead Supplier Integrated engineer to successfully execute seat design and release* Develop and release seat assembly following the GM Vehicle Development Process (VDP)* Drive activities with seat supplier Program Engineers and Product Engineers in developing supplier technology for GM vehicle programs while meeting program imperatives* Lead component Product Development Team (PDT) and support sub-system Product Management Teams* Ensure PDT timing plans are thorough and accurate* Root cause test incidents and implement corrective actions within tracking system timing guidelines* Participate in GM Corporate technology teams and support World Wide Purchasing Activities* Interface with team members from manufacturing assembly operations, finance, marketing, design, purchasing, occupant safety, validation, harmony and others as necessary to support and execute program imperatives* Support production launch activities for seats and sub-systems* Define, implement cost reduction activities to meet organizational goals* Define, implement quality/warranty improvements to meet organizational goals* Develop and maintain, with the seat supplier, sub system and component specifications* Actively participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design for Assembly (DFA) development activities* Develop and support test plans including component tests, sled tests, and full vehicle barrier tests* Support/ participate in Vehicle Seat Comfort Process, Appearance Reviews, Peer Reviews* Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs* Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development* Performs complex design analysis* Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)* Implements engineering changes* Specifies and balances system requirements* Plans and implements test and/or development programs* Releases parts and subsystems for production* Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers* Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products* Travels as requiredQualificationsBasic Required* High level of oral and written communication skills* Problem solving proficiency* High level of interpersonal skills to work within Product Development Team (PDT) and also within Supplier Integrated Team* 5 years automotive seat engineering experience* Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area* Ability to support multiple programs and/or activities* High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others* BSME or equivalent training* Program management SkillsBasic Preferred* Seat assembly engineering experience* Occupant performance experience as it relates to seat design* Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) requirements as it relates to seat design* Experience with DFMA and DFA* Metal and plastic material knowledge* Creative skills with the willingness to take managed risk* Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms* Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required* Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals* Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.g. mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area* High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complexPrimary LocationUS-MI-WarrenPosting Date:Feb 22, 2010 Apr 23, 2010
