Project Specific Duties: Crystal River 3 Containment RepairProvides technical expertise in the field of Fire Protection Engineering in support of Owner's engineer role and in support of various modification packages Reviews and comments on fire protection aspects of plans, proposals and engineering modification packages prepared by other engineering firms. Performs Owner's acceptance of fire protection documents on behalf of Progress Energy. Implements modification packages for fire protection system relocations in accordance with plant procedures. Prepares fire protection related scope, design inputs, assumptions, design evaluations, interfaces, installation and testing requirements. Prepares schedule, implement, manage and expedite all design review, verification and approvals in accordance with procedures. Develops and/or manages the preparation of turnover and closeout documentation and criteria for modification packages.General Duties:Health, Safety, and Environmental - Support, participate in, and ensure use of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs. Facilitate atmosphere of concern for HSE issues. Technical Competency Assurance Program - Encourage project team knowledge of and compliance with department Engineering Practices. Enforce employee adherence to generally accepted engineering/design practice. Support standardization of engineering deliverables. Contribute to engineering/design knowledge. Enforce adherence to regulatory codes and standards. Enforce adherence to engineering laws and guidelines. Enforce adherence to client guidelines, standards, and specifications whenever viable and lawful. Enforce adherence to corporate guidelines. Quality Assurance/Quality Control Program - Manage engineering/design technical checking and incorporation of comments. Manage CAD checking and incorporation of comments. Be responsible for quality assurance/quality control activities such as: Encourage project team knowledge of and compliance with department quality assurance and quality control guidelines. Project Scope/Cost/Time Management – Manage, monitor and report on the project scope/cost/time requirements and assist team in meeting expectations. Advises direct supervisor and/or Engineering and Project Management team regarding any issues, staffing requirements, progress slippage, scope changes, budget overruns, or other events that could affect project completion and/or profitability. Assist in project scope/cost/time management. Establish the project scope, cost, and time requirements with the client, and maintain the engineering scope control documents, engineering cost estimates, and engineering project schedule. Determine the project scope battery limits with the local utility, other consulting companies, and equipment vendors and provide information and back check the construction cost estimate and construction schedule. Maintain a record of client preferred design options, client preferred equipment configurations and scope changes. Obtain client approval of deliverables. Project Quality Management - Be knowledgeable regarding the project quality management requirements and assist team in meeting expectations. Assist in project quality management. Create project quality plan, monitor project quality assurance and quality control activities, and recommend quality improvements. Project Risk Management - Assist in project risk management. Participate in project risk assessment process, identify ongoing risks, develop workaround plans and manage ongoing risks.Job RequirementsBS or MS in mechanical engineering with fire protection related education or equivalent experience. Expert knowledge of fire protection codes, nuclear regulations, practices, and accepted procedures. Typically minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; relevant professional registration preferred. Recognized as a functional expert and leader within the department and broader organization. Anticipates complex internal and external business issues with impact on the organization and can recommend innovative program and/or program solutions. Proficient with engineering software applications; Strong problem solving skills. Accuracy and attention to detail important. Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities somewhat important. The ability to prepare and present complex program proposals and reports to senior level management and customers is critical. Ability to establish project estimates and oversight of project budgets. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential to effectively teach what they know to other employees. Computer proficiency required. Ability to effectively manage and work in teams. Commitment to customer service and ability to guide personnel is essential. Ability to maintain confidential information. Generally characterized as a "Leader" and "Technical Specialist" with the ability to technically advise and guide the department program design and development. Leads complex and often cross-functional project teams. Typically will regularly interface with departmental staff and upper management, and frequently with outside customers.
